Today we are proud to participate in LiveStrong 2010. We do this to help raise the awareness of the important fight against cancer. Think about it for a minute, many of our human loved ones have been touched by cancer and many of our critter pals have been as well.
I would like to just take a minute to tell you about two in my life. My Grandma had cancer. She fought very, very hard and was so determined to beat it. She was so very close to beating it went a horrible infection took her from us. She had the will to fight and she was winning, but her overall health wouldn’t let her beat away the infections, so we lost her. The second is my Dad. Yep, he had a fight with skin cancer. That was two years ago, and he is winning. So we keep a very close eye on him and will not let him leave the house without mega-sunscreen.
Then there were two cats who were here way before I was even born, way before! The first is Paws, she fought very hard against cancer and let it be known when it was time to go to the Rainbow Bridge. I understand she was a gentle soul that fought so very hard. Paws lived to be 20. Then there was Beth. One day, in what seemed out of the blue, Dad and Mom noticed her face looked strange, it had a strange shape to it. Yep, cancer reared it’s ugly head. She fought too, but decided she had to leave. Beth as 16 when she went to the Rainbow Bridge. Both Paws and Beth were Calicos.
There are some key word that are important in this fight. Rather that list them, take a look at this logo from our friend Ann at The Zoolatry.
Each and every one of those words is important in this fight. In a way, each of those words is like us bloggers. Individually we can win a battle, but together we can whip anything, including this awful disease. Today, and henceforth, we LiveStrong, together.
We're hoping this day will help people and cats find good information and help.
We're hoping this day will help people and cats find good information and help.

Thanks for sharing how both human and cats fight against cancer.
We are so sorry your loved ones lost their fight with cancer. Very moving post Brian and a good one for this day. I think I fixed the Mr Linky if you want to come by and see if it works better – it was supposed to be a easy click but it does work with a little more effort.
What a beautiful post Brian. That terrible cancer hits so many. We all need to LiveStrong and pray they find a cure! Lots of love, Holly and Mom

It's sad to lose a pet in any sickness or even an accident. I do wish they could find a cure for cancer.
Sweet Brian, your post made us all teary. We are so glad your Daddy whipped the bad cancers butt, and paws to you for making sure your Dad wears mega sunscreen.

Indeed….livestrong. Let's whip this thing!
Thank you for your moving post today, Brain. We appreciate all you do to raise awareness for important issues, pertaining to both us feline types and our beloved humans.

Brian, me and mommy thank you for you post. My mom's human mom was taken away from her by cancer and it has attacked mom's sister in law and her brother just passed away end of July because of cancer.
We are proud and happy to support Livestrong and grateful that it exists for us to support in ways that we can.
I think your post rings true for many of us; cheering on survivors and remembering those who fought hard. Hoping Livestrong will help many.
Cancer runs in our family 🙁 The disease took my dad, cousin, 2 uncles and grandfather. And incidentally, one of my cats died of liver cancer years ago. Hugs and prayers to everyone who are fighting against it. We really need more awareness. Thank you for reminding us 🙂
Such a lovely tribute to your Grandma, Dad, and the two kitties who came before. We sure are glad your Dad is doing so well now. Together we can find a cure! LIVESTRONG
What a lovely tribute. So sorry you lost loved ones to this awful disease. Purrs that they find ways to discover it faster and help people and furries survive it.
Some enemies are hard to fight like cancer. It's sneaky and hides in the shadows because that is the only way it can win. We are so glad your Dad is winning against this monster. =^Y^=
We pray this disease will be defeated! Our mom had kidney cancer 3 years ago!
A very good LiveStrong post, Brian…
Brian, This was a beautiful tribute post. Our family too has lost many loved ones to the big C.
Thanks for highlighting the importance of awareness.
Wonderful post, Brian! We reflect on how many lives it touches, in the past, present and future. We pray that a cure will be found and that cancer will become a thing of the past. LiveStrong!
Many purrs,
Keiko, Kenji, Pricilla & Yuji
Cancer is an insidious disease and affects way to many of us. Unfortunately, even with all the recent treatment advances, if cancer is not caught early, it's still an uphill battle.
We honour those who have survived cancer, and remember with sadness those who didn't.
