Remembering Brother Ivan Today and Every Day

Brother Ivan, always in my heart
Today we remember my Brother Ivan.  Actually we all remember Brother Ivan each and every day.  My newest readers may not even know that I had a Brother.  But I sure did, and he was the best Brother in the whole wide world.

When I was adopted, just three days before Christmas, Brother Ivan was there to greet me.  We were instant friends in about two minutes time.  Seriously, two minutes was about it.  You see, Brother Ivan has recently lost his Brother Moses and he was so very lonely.  I was adopted to be his pal and pals we were.

Brother Ivan taught me everything I know.   He taught me how to be kind to others and he taught me how important it is to welcome others and to help the ones in need find their special forever homes too.  We did everything together, where one of us was the other was right there.  Brother Ivan was a very big Maine Coon, a gentle giant.  We truly had a very special bond.

Then, in the middle of the night, just days before our Thanksgiving Holiday, Brother Ivan let out a scream.  Three minutes later he was gone.  He left while my Dad was holding him.  It was the saddest day for all of us, but especially for me.  I loved my Brother Ivan with every bit of my heart and I cherish the almost eleven months we had together.

So today I want you to know Brother Ivan that there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of you.  I try as hard as I know how to live up to your expectations of me.  I know you are watching over me and I feel your presence in my heart each and every day.  I love you Ivan, and I always, always will.

Love always, your Brother Brian.

I`m so sorry to read about Brother Ivan. What a handsome cat he was. I love the Maine Coon cat and care for a few in my cat-sitting business. They are the most charming, beautiful little souls. I`m so sorry for your loss and your tribute today was very touching. Deb

Aw Brian that is so sweet… Ivan certainly looks like a very friendly and handsome kitty. I did not know you had a brother. How lucky you got to spend time with him and call him your brofur…

Oh my. I am so sorry that happened.
What a shock that must have been.
I bet you are glad you where home to be there for him.

I know as time goes by we do sometimes forget.
I have photos on the wall and each time I walk by them, I talk to and give a kiss to Lilly Ann and Sabrina Isabella. I don’t cry now though.

When I go outside with the girls, I take a walk to the path. Along there is an old rhody where my there girls are buried. I say their names and for that moment they are back with me. They are Sammy Jo, Lacey Ann and Cashmere. Sammy was 17, Lacey was 19 and Cashmere was 21. Mom and her two daughters.

    Always remember …

Oh, that is such a nice story about him. He sounds like a great cat. Mom says she thinks about her lost pets all the time, but we only write about them certain times too. Our kitty Boo did the same thing, let our a scream and then gone. So very sad, but life goes on and we all love you, Brian!

  20. CatonsvilleCats

Every year I think what a great cat Ivan must have been.
When you posted on Friday that there would be a special tribute, all I could think of was that you lost Sascha! I hope she is doing ok.

  21. Kat

As long as someone remembers us with love, we are not really gone. Tell your sisters to give you lots of extra cuddles!
