Thankful Thursday: Understanding Feline Diabetes. Thanks to Special Vets, Us Coons, Camilla and Facebook Messenger

Adopt Tigger ADOPT TIGGER

Brian's Home. Adopt cats, we deserve it!

We sure have a lot to be thankful for this week, and that is probably an understatement. As you know, Sister Zoe has been diagnosed with diabetes, as if she didn’t have enough problems she was dealing with, like the removal of that massive furball.  However, Sister Zoe is doing quite well and she is so good at handling all of this, much better than the peeps.

We are so thankful for all of those who helped us all get an understanding of feline diabetes, how to do the glucose tests, how to understand the tests, how to understand the importance of diet and everything else we’ve had to learn on short order.  The wonderful Vet that was caring for Sister Zoe is Dr. V.  She has been wonderful and has been super caring.  Dr. V. has been there for us, even responding to late night emails when we had questions.

Then there are two friends we want to give a shout out to, UsCoons, our long time best friends from way back.  Their kitty Angel Nimbus, and my bestest pal, was a long time diabetic and Curson is Sister Zoe’s handsome mancat.  Their insight and the ability to help Dad get a grip on the situation was so appreciated, and still is.  We also want to thank my friend Camilla from Facebook, and specifically the Feline Diabetes Facebook Group for jumping right in and giving us a head start on what we needed to do for Sister Zoe and how we needed to do it.

Lastly, something I thought I would never say is that we’re thankful for Facebook Messenger.  When Facebook separated out their chat feature from their main app we said we simply wouldn’t install it as we didn’t need another app.  Boy were we wrong. The ability to instantly communicate with UsCoons and Camilla was such a comfort. I really don’t know how we would have made such quick progress without it.

So, there you have it.  We are thankful for lots today, and we hope you are too.  Remember, adopt cats, we deserve it!!!!!  More Forever Homes More Often!  Purrrrr! Zip! Later!

That’s awesome you were able to find the information and support you needed. Diabetes can be tricky sometimes, but it’s not so bad once you get used to the injections. I hope Zoe is adjusting well. I tried to install the messenger one day, but it wouldn’t let me. So now I just open my phone browser if I want to read a message =/

The learning curve for diabetes is steep, but it is short. I am glad you were able to find the support you needed to get a handle on all of this.

Like so many others, I too cared for a diabetic cat. Em had it for 7 years before she passed at 16 from cancer. Because of what I learned I was able to care for a half dozen or more diabetic fosters after that..

As you already know, that is what’s so wonderful about the anipal community – someone has already been through what you are going through and is willing to lend support via suggestions, tips, or just talking about what is going on. I’m purring like crazy for both Brian and Sister – we want both of them well again or at least with their disease under control with meds. M sends hugs to your dad cuz she knows what it is like.ddd
