Welcome to our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. I’ll give you a short Simon update in a minute, but today I’ll be right up front and say I’d really be thankful if these things didn’t go off or better yet, if they didn’t exist at all. We’re coming up on the July 4th Independence Day Holiday here in the U.S., and that means tons of fireworks here where we live.
There is one basic rule of fireworks here in our neck of the woods. You MUST set them off from dusk until the wee hours of the morning on any holiday ending with the letter Y, like Independence Day, Memorial Day, New Years Eve Day, etc.. I think it’s a law here or something. The humans are just plain rude about it too. They, could care less if someone is trying to sleep or if outside critters are scared to death. Every year when the fireworks go off we seem to lose a member of our feral family. They likely get scared and run off.
So, this is sort of my version of a Paw It Forward Thankful Thursday, I would sure be thankful to never hear a bang or a boom again. Now, about Brother Simon. He is feeling some better, and yes, he had what Sister Seal had. Simon had a really high fever along with his coughing and sneezing. He got an antibiotic shot, fluids, pain meds, antinausea meds and probably something else I’ve forgotten. He is not eating like he should but hopefully he will. Our nice Vet said he was very brave. We’re all so thankful he is doing some better and we’re thankful for the wonderful Dr. Anderson.
What are you thankful for today? Tell me in your comment and then join us for the Blog Hop, we’d like that! Remember, adopt cats, we deserve it!!!!! More Forever Homes More Often! Purrrrr! Zip! Later!
Brian, maybe you should buy up all the fireworks so no one else can have them. Or come up here where the only noise comes from way across the river.
We are thankful that Simon is doing better!
Glad to hear Simon is doing a bit better!!
oh, Brian! our hearts hurt for you and your feral friends for having those stinkin fireworks to deal with. we are thankful our night of fireworks in our town has passed and that besides the small scale fireworks, they are illegal for folks to set off. We are also thankful for the improvement for Seal and Simon. purrs,
pip, smidgen, minnie, hollie, sharpie, ditto, TL
I’m sorry your area has such inconsiderate people when it comes to fireworks. We always hear a few, but nothing too terrible because only the “safe” ones are legal in California. I hope your ferals aren’t too scared this year.
Good news about Brother Simon being a good patient and that he’s feeling a bit better.
We feel your pain, Brian! Bentley HATES fireworks and we have two stands not far from our home. They shoot off fireworks each night in some sort of contest, I think! I wish they were illegal for private use. ♥ We are glad that Simon is doing better.
Ick, we hate firework holidays! The Mom here started dreading it way back in June.
Stay safe and calm over the holiday. Sending purrs for Simon.
XOXO
I’m sending lots of purrs to Simon – and I’m with you on the fireworks! Even I don’t like them much.

I’m glad you have such a fabulous vet and your brother simon feels a little better.
I’m totally with you, people act crazy and rude with fireworks and they often don’t think about the consequences for others… I hope that your celebrations go smooth and no one lands at the er and no one has to feel fears…
I’m thankful for this crazy cat I’m taking care of for my cousin. He just came over to be petted then plopped down between my feet like a bag of rocks.
Hi Brian, As a big kid, I love fireworks. But as a kitty Mom, who sees how scared her fur babies get, I hate them. I would love to see them banned here and put a stop to scaring the poor animals. We keep our kitties inside for three days surrounding the 4th of July, with Felaway going, Rescue Remedy in the water, and soft music playing on both TVs. It helps some, but not enough.
Hi Brian! First of all I’m happy to hear Felix is better……I hope he will eat and catch up with his routine of keeping an eye on things around the house! We agree with you about fireworks. They are a nuisance and they’ve already begun here – people are celebrating early and have no regard for their neighbors setting the noisy things off all times of the day and night! Silly peeps………….
Hugs, Teddy and Angel Sammy
We are so sorry to hear Simon got Sister Seal’s cold. We are sending lots of healing purrs and are relived he is doing better. Paws crossed everyone else STAYS WELL.
We think the Fireworks thing is a law down here too. Of course with all the rain we have been getting the fireworks may be rained out here, we sure hope so.
It’s the same here with fireworks for any excuse, and then they go on for days on end. Luckily we don’t live near enough to hear them too much. Having said that, Eric used to love watching them across the river from the window.
I am glad that Simon is doing better.
So glad Simon is a little better. Sending lots of purrs that he is well and soon so that fella can get back to work entertaining everyone. Sure hope that the fireworks aren’t too bad this year for you. We hate that it sometimes chases the feral cats away but we can’t blame them. You all have a good day.
We hate the booms too! So thankful that Simon is doing better!
We are sending lots of purrs and prayers to Simon! We are glad that he’s already feeling a bit better, and we hope he’s back to 100% sooner than soon. And we couldn’t agree with you more about those rude fireworks. We are lucky in that none of the furbabies here at our house are afraid of fireworks, thunder, or anything like that. But, the strays and ferals outside, as well as the neighbor’s cat who always seems to be outside when they go off, are terrified of them. That makes us sad for them, and we wish they didn’t… Read more »
I’m thankful for some good news from your home – sorry about the fireworks though !
I hate fireworks and I am planning to complain about them with my fill-ins tomorrow. They are illegal to purchase in my state, but many go over the border to NH and get them. I am glad Simon is doing better. Thanks for hosting.
I am thankful that Seal is better, and it sounds like Simon is on the road to recovery. You are always in our prayers. HUGS.
Awww…poor baby…glad he is feeling better.
So thankful that Simon is feeling some better. Here comes some Healing Pawkisses and hope that he feels all better soon <3 <3 <3
We still hope for a law that forbits fireworks. We all hate them!

Brian, first, we could NOT agree with you more about the fireworks. We have the same problem. They start at Memorial Day and go through the entire summer. It’s crazy. I wish all private shooting of fireworks would be banned. I HATE IT. We are so happy to hear that Simon is doing somewhat better, he is a tough guy and we are confident he will be better soon. We just feel so bad that he is so young and sweet and that he has to go through this. Please give him kisses from us! xoxo
Brian we know how you feel! Do we ever! Those crazy humans around here have been setting off fireworks since last week. *sigh*
Continued purrs for Brother Simon.
Brian, I always feel so bad for you guys and the ferals. I agree with the above about private fireworks being banned.
I’m so glad to hear that Simon is getting better, the brave boy. 🙂
Hopefully he stays on the mend and is back chasing everyone again soon. Yeah, we wouldn’t mind if those dumb things never boomed again either.
We are so thankful to hear that Brother Simon is doing at least a little better. We will continue those crossed paws for him and for the rest of the family.
As for the fireworks, this year we won’t have to worry about poor Angel Ciara and those horrific bands. Lightning isn’t usually bothered by them but he seems more disturbed by the thunderstorms than he used to be. As for Misty this is going to be her first exposure to them, so here’s hoping she isn’t concerned about them at all.
Stay safe.
We are thankful that Simon is feeling better and hope he will be back to 100% soonest.
We hope the boomies are few and far between.
Purrs,
The Chans
We’re glad Simon is doing better. Hope he feels 100% soon!
We, too, hate the fireworks and wish they were illegal. But they even put up a tent in the walmart parking lot before holidays to sell fireworks.
Brian, somehow I got mixed up and thought that YOU were ill, not Simon! D’OH! :slaps forehead: Poor Simon and Seal; hope they are both 100% quickly. I am thankful for the person who invented silent fireworks, and hope that communities everywhere start adopting them instead of noisy ones. Let’s all be more peaceful, and QUIET!
Fireworks are a real nuisance, and too many people don’t hesitate to set them off illegally.
Glad Brother Simon is feeling better.
We are glad to hear Simon is coming along, and we pray that continues and he can be back to his old self soon.
We all hate fireworks too, but so far at our new house it has been much quieter on the holidays, we hope that continues. Even though we live in the country, at our old house we had one neighbor that set them off – they really petrify Cricket so we hope we never have to hear them again.
We are with you about those fireworks! Daddy promises to turn the TV up real loud and keep us busy so we don’t hear anything. Sending continued POTP to Simon!
xoxo
Arty and Jakey
We are hoping Simon feels better soon, but I bet some of you kitties are enjoying having him settle down for a few days! My mom dislikes fireworks too because she can’t sleep through them. Hopefully being a week day this year the noise won’t be as bad.
Glad to hear the kitties are feeling better.
We’re very thankful that Simon is feeling better! We also HATE those boomies. They don’t bother us but they sure did bother our woofie brofurs and we know all the woofies in the neighborhood don’t like them.
The Florida Furkids
Oh poor little Simon…wonder what in the world it was he and Seal caught? Thank goodness the remainder of you are all okey dokey. Stay well and Thank goodness for a wonderful VET!!
Hugs madi and Mom
PS mom’s 8 year old flip phone died on vacay…she didn’t have a contract anymore just added minutes to it. but rather than add any to an old phone she bought a high tech (to her) LG tracfone Smarty pants and is trying to learn what she can.
LOL
Purrs and prayers for brother Simon. Wishing fireworks weren’t allowed in neighborhoods! XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy
I am thankful for all the hoppers on this blog hop who love to get together on Thursdays to be thankful together. So much to be thankful for—and their pictures are right up above on this blog!
Our cats are afraid of everything…except fireworks, oddly enough. Could have something to do with the fact that we live close to Disneyland and hear them going off every single night. Sometimes twice a night in the summer. But yes, we’d be thankful if neighbors didn’t set them off in the driveway.
Seria ótimo vocês conseguirem tampões para os ouvidos. Miauhihi
Ficamos contentes que nosso amigo Simon está melhor.
Pretinha
Oh MeOW Brian, we’re so with ya’. We think we have da same law here. We wish those things never existed. And we’re glad to hear dat Simon be feelin’ better. We’re still sendin’ lots of hugs and purrayers.
Luv ya’
Dezi and Raena
People around us fire those things off a lot too.
We also do not like them. Heck, we don’t even like thunder.
We would be happy if they stopped making them.
It is good to hear that Simon is doing a bit better.
WE purr he improved once the drugs do their work.
Purrs Georgia,Julie and JJ
I agree with you about the fireworks. Who needs them? And they scare so many animals… including you! I hope it stays quiet near you.
I’m thankful that Simon and Seal are on the mend.
I’m glad Simon is okay… Now he just has to get through July 4th.
First of all, I have Simon in my paw prayers that he keeps doing good. It’s so sad to be sick. As for the loud rood bangs that hoomons set off…honestly you’d think they had something better to do with their time… But I guess they’re too busy going deaf from the loud bangs. Mom turns on nice music for us to listen to while the fireworks are going off. It helps a little.
I am thankful that Brother Simon is better and home. Poor baby. I wonder how these things get started with our pets?
We don’t like those stupid fireworks, either. And those inconsiderate people who set them off in your area must have relatives here, because they do the same thing setting them off at all hours. 🙁
Glad to hear Simon’s doing a bit better. We’ll keep purring and praying!
