Hello everyone, it’s Mancat Monday and I’m here on the steps again. The last time I was here one of my pals said I looked a little sad. Oh, I wasn’t sad but this time I tried to smile for all of you. Hey, there’s nothing better than a nice smile. Believe me, I know, and this weekend the Dad wasn’t smiling too much at all, thanks to one of the most horrible products in the world, Windows 10.
Since our Mac died and we switched to HP and Windows 10, two big mistakes, we really haven’t had any problems with Window 10…until this weekend. We were forced into an update to the latest version. That’s when the problems started and the Dad let lots of HBO words fly, yikes. It was a mess and actually still is, not the best way to spend the weekend.
It was like it was a brand new install of Windows 10 or something. After the update, the first thing we noticed is most of the non-windows programs no longer existed. Our Photoshop, Firefox browser, Norton Security Suite and Malwarebytes were gone as was all of our Firefox favorites and our password manager program too. They simply didn’t exist any more. We don’t even know everything that was in our favorites at this point in time as our backup disappeared too. Speaking of backups, the iDrive program also was gone.
Even more fun, Windows 10 won’t save any settings. Anytime the computer is restarted all settings are gone. We have to log into Facebook, iDrive, OneDrive, Firefox and Adobe CC each and every time. Now that’s a real pain. Also, every time we restart any shortcuts on the desktop or task bar are also gone and have to be recreated.
Doesn’t that sound like fun? NOT! Oh well, the Dad says he has other plans so we’ll see. At least we got far enough to be able to do our blog posts. I hope you all have a totally fabulous Monday, I’ll be back again for our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. Remember, adopt cats, we deserve it!!!!! More Forever Homes More Often! Purrrrr! Zip! Later!
maybe billy gates named it windows because you feel the need to throw that beast through da window always if they have a poop-date?
Yes! We think you are right about that! 🙂
This sounds really awful! My human is a dyed-in-the-wool Mac person, but she knows they are not without their own issues (and they are way more pricey!). No system is perfect, but this new version of Windows 10 sounds especially horrid.
I had that major update 2 weeks ago. I have heard a lot of people have had big problems with it, but luckily once I managed to log on, mine weren’t as bad.
I do find the computer is running slow though, and if I want to see my photos it takes about a minute before they appear on screen. My icons were scattered everywhere as well.
Brian, I feel for your dad. I understand the headaches of reinstalling everything like that and it never goes smoothly. Windows 10 is a nightmare. I can’t even get it installed correctly on one of our laptops and I’m afraid to do updates on our old desktop but I need to just to keep it up to speed in case something happens to our Macs. I hate that your Mac died. Maybe Santa will bring them a new one this year. 🙂 Best of luck to the Dad getting things figured out. Oh yeah, thanks for sharing the dance floor… Read more »
Ugg. Stupid updates. They always revert settings back to what windows what you to have, their crummy products. Never went that far on us though, thankfully.
I hope Dad can get it fixed. I know what he is going through. I bought an SSD drive and had to upgrade from windows 7 to 10 to use it. When I did Chrome no longer worked. Firefox didn’t work either. After more than six months I am still forced to use Edge. Now, after an update, my Canon photography software won’t work anymore. That is something I use all the time so I am not happy about that.
Wow, that is awful. Hope the Dad can get it all figured out. Hope you all are enjoying our little cooler weather. We sure are enjoying it. Have a great day.
We are windows users, Mom doesn’t like mac at all, BUT…she hates updates! They are scary as you never know what might happen. So sorry it all went wrong. Hopefully you can get things back to the way they should be.
Oh Oh, we thought maybe you had to wash 10 windows!
But this is much worse than window washing … maybe by thankful thursday you’ll be able to be thankful that the mess is all fixed up and straightened out?
Ack! That sounds horrible! The mom is still using Windows 7, though she needs a new laptop so she’ll be forced to use Windows 10.
The folks at Mac & Windows just won’t learn that, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Seems like someone always has a better idea to add features that 99.9% of us don’t need nor ever use. As long as computers still crash, burn, and lose files, there will always be a need for pencil and paper to keep track of our log-in info, passwords, and must-have information. Now if I could only remember where I put my lil’ password notebook. Have a blessed week.
What a mess! What was MS thinking!?! I’m sorry your Dad had such annoying problems, but I’m glad to see your handsome self this morning Brian!
Add us to the HBO words about the latest update.
The Florida Furkids
yikes……yuck…..and a bunch of HBO words too! My Mom has resisted upgrading to 10 and knows that should this computer ever die (no no no!) we may have no choice. Haven’t heard a lot of good stuff about 10 from people WE know but have heard of other people who love it. So who knows?!?! I hope your Dad can get things squared away for you guys though!
Hugs, Teddy
Brian, we believe you just get more handsome everyday. This is a terrific photo. Nothing worse than computers and operating systems. Mom says, if she had all that happening, she would be saying more than HBO words…like there would be a broken window where she heaved the entire thing right through it! Good luck to your dad. It all sounds like a huge pain. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer
We had big problems too but not quite that bad. Updates suck.
I know exactly what you’re going through. Was there myself recently too. The newest updates for Windows 10 have so many bugs they should come with a can of Raid and a fly swatter.
Whoa! That sounds like a nightmare. Please tell your dad to switch back to Mac if the green papers are there. I can’t believe it even zapped your backups. Do you have Carbonite or something like it? I hope you still have your photo library.
Brian, I would have been beyond HBO words, if such things happened to us! And this is why The Hubby doesn’t do anything electronic; his temper would overflow like a volcano’s lava! Hope your Dad gets things worked out, with the least amount of frustration on his part.
I can see why your Dad was mad.
dood…if yur dadz planz inn volvez an ax anda pail for spare partz we total lee get it; de FSG haz that mezz at her place oh employ non stop….we hope de izzue getz fixed soon~~~~ 🙂 ♥♥
OMC! We are so computer-challenged here that we are still using Windows 7. Hope your dad can figure things out.
Our ASUS is fine. We got that simply so we would be aware of setting up Win10 now that 7 will not be supported next year. This worries us. Ugh
Our ASUS is alright so far. Win 10 seems really wonky and we are worried as Dad needs to change over his desktop that has our photo editing programs on it. UGH for windows.
Those updates can be such a pain in the neck. Hope you are all having a good day.
OMC I am so sorry you are going through all of this! I have had numerous Windows 10 updates and thankfully nothing happened. I don’t use Firefox though, I use Google Chrome.
Oh no, that is the absolute worst. I had to buy a new laptop a few years ago and stuck with Windows 7. I know it’s ancient but I’ve never had any problems with it. I know when I have to get a new laptop again that I’ll probably have to get Windows 10 and I’m not looking forward to that at all.
Oh I join you in you chorus of HBO words. I have windows 10….no problems until weekend before last.
My ancient printer no longer spoke the Windows 10’s language, I could not find my pictures and it didn’t recognize my camera.
A week ago to day we had a new printer (which we needed anyway) installed by the Geek Squad and they also found my pictures. No way I could have done any of this on my own. Hugs to Dad as he works thru this

Mom is so glad she has a Macbook Pro. Our Dad uses Windows 10 something or other. Every time there is an update everything gets messed up. Dad isn’t very tech savvy so he ends up paying someone to help fix it. Seems like they should be able to do things better than they do.
Hope Dad’s plans work out for him.
Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber
Windoze. Is. Not. Brilliant.
Come back to the dark side we have cat treats and computers that work…….
Oh I Plead the fifth on windows ugh I am no good at technology and it seems something is always going bonkers! ALways love your photos here. Have a wonderful week. HUGS to everyone
Yikes on the computer problems. I’ve not had any issues with windows 10 and it updates without me losing everything. I’d hate that for sure.
Sorry I’m so late today. We boated from Rio Vista back to our slip and then drove home.
Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. My best to your peeps. ♥
OMC, that’s awful ! We feel for your dad, and we hope things will soon go better. Purrs
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Brian ask him to just get another Mac. It’s worth it. I have heard complaint ad infinitum by the forced updates and all the other things you and your dad pointed out.
I’ve spent many an hour starting from scratch in the days when my boot disc was my best friend. And that was with a Mac, however, the MacBook I have now (from 2012) hasn’t had any issues worth mentioning (just memory stuff, too many high res photos) and is still going strong. I bought one windows laptop and it became obsolete in a few years and was nothing compared to a MacBook. If you counted the hours of misery caused by Windows and the staying power of a PC compared to a Mac you might be tempted to take it… Read more »
You switched from Mac to Windows??????? Yikes!
I hate computer updates. They can’t leave well enough alone
Phew, we’re glad you are at least able to blog! Grrr…..Windows 10….we are not fans either. I had to get a new laptop at one point because the updates messed up my old one so bad! I tried to stop them but couldn’t!
I just had an update not long ago, and all of my sticky notes on my laptop disappeared. Luckily I ended up finding them again, so it’s not as bad as for your poor Dad.
We’re glad to see your happy and handsome face though, Brian! ♥
Oh, what a nightmare! I have Windows 10 at work and now I’m starting to worry…
Ugh! I hate those types of problems. I’ve had problems too. I have not been home much but very few blogs will let me comment from my phone. 🙁 I don’t know why – but it includes yours which is why I’ve been so invisible.
It’s a curse. Anyone who leaves a Mac for a PC, the curse follows…and now for the lighter side of the news..!
Hey, we’re sorry it happened. Computers can be frustrating at times! – Tom x
Gee, mum took our puter through the wormhole a few weeks ago. It took forever (3 hours) but everything worked afterwords. Firefox, all our favs, photoshop. Bummer that you had problems.
YES!!! I HATE Windows 10 too! Actually thinking of getting a MAC for the first time ever
We are sorry you had so much trouble and frustration. We didn’t, really, except: it didn’t let Mom schedule it so it launched itself at a very inopportune time, and it took OVER THREE HOURS. There were a few adjustments she had to make but nothing like stuff disappearing or not working.
You look very sweet and thoughtful, Brian.
This summer we got a new computer with 10 windows because the one we are using only has seven. Apparently pretty soon that is going to be a problem. Anyhoo, we haven’t set up our new one yet and now we REALLY aren’t in a rush 😀 have a good week!

To err is human, but to really foul things up requires technology.
Or, as Douglas Adams, author of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, said, “We are stuck with technology when what we really want is stuff that works.”
Good luck!
Yikes, nothing worst than a big, hot, frustrating computer fiasco. I’ve let the HBO words fly as well 😉
Oh, that’s awful. We’ve had computer problems too…. just returned a new Windows 10 computer because it had out-of-the-box video driver compatibility issues. After a lifetime of being windows users, we bought a Mac (so now were a blended household). I hope you’re able to get everything fixed and running the way you like.
Computers are a blessing and a curse … A blessing to have found all of you – a curse when it doesn’t work!
Makes my momma glad she has a mac.
Lulu: “Oh that doesn’t sound like any fun at all!”
Charlee: “Our dada uses Windows 10 on his work machine. He says he liked it at first, but after a while he started to kind of hate it. Now he just tolerates it.”
Chaplin: “I guess we animals are lucky we have the humans to work the computers for us!”
