This is a special event that occurs annually and helps us all remember those shelter pets still there, still waiting for their forever home. Okay, like we could only do that annually. We remember them all each and every single day. It’s important and has been my cause ever since I was adopted from a shelter in 2008.
Prior to Brother Simon and Sister Seal, who are our feral adoptees, everyone here came from a shelter. We know we are the lucky ones, we know it with all our hearts. You see, I was adopted because, and only because the Mom remembered me. I was a kitty nobody wanted, waiting in the shelter for nine months, watching others come in and then leave for their forever homes.
The Mom spotted me early on but couldn’t get the Dad to come see me because the loss of the kitty Moses was just too raw. But the Mom remembered me, she remembered I was in the shelter, still waiting. She came to visit me and checked on me weekly. When I was adopted into an abusive home, the Mom remembered me. The shelter staff repossessed me and when I came back to the shelter, them Mom popped in and was happy to see me, she remembered.
Finally the Dad caved, he came to see me, I came home shortly after that, just three days before Christmas, because the Mom remembered me. We all, as the lucky ones, need to do our part. Remember those in the shelters still waiting. Do something to help them, something, anything. You’ll change a life forever, and we’ll all be thankful for that. Please pause to remember those special souls who never made it out of the shelter, they so deserved a better life.
What are you thankful for today? Tell me in the comments and then join us for our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. Remember, adopt cats, we deserve it!!!!! More Forever Homes More Often! Purrrrr! Zip! Later!
We are so glad Mom and Dad remembered you, Brian! Thank you for always remembering that there are lots of pets still waiting to be discovered.
Someday, all kitties will have families. I’m purring for that.
we are so happy that people like your parents never give up to make this world to a better place for all in need…
I am glad your mom remembered you, Brian, and never gave up and got your dad to come and see you too.

Great that the Mom remembered. Always have to remember the many there indeed.
What a wonderful happy ending for you, Brian!
Our kitties are shelter cats. All of mom’s cats, even the ones she had in Germany were from shelters. They are thankful to have a good home.
So glad that you were remembered. None of our kitties are shelter kitties, but they were all strays. They never had to go to a shelter, we found them.
Precious Brian, I’m am so thankful that you are in your forever home and we can visit you online everyday. Only one of ours (Simon) came from a shelter – the rest were abandoned in our neighborhood or ferals. We are so thankful for everyone who adopts a pet and we purr and pray that all shelter pets will be adopted. POTP.
Oh my goodness talk about meant to BE and being in the right place as the right time.
Such a sweet ‘rememberme” story
Hugs Cecilia
Spay and neuter, and RESCUE!
Meowser Brian dear furiend! We all started life as feral and/or in the shelter, too. Katsu and both my deceased bunny brofers were found in the shelter – HALO gave mom the bunnies because they were too old to be adoptable. Master Munchkin fell in love with Katsu, who was isolated in the lobby from a very early age due to a misdiagnosis of his eye issue (they thought it was courageous – it was an infected scratch)…. For years, Master Munchkin had said he wanted a big fat yellow cat (I’ve tried my best to fatten up), then, when… Read more »

What a very inspiring story and we know you have brought so much happiness to your family. We were all on the street or on
our way to a shelter when we got a great rehome at The Poodle (and dog and one spoiled cat) blog.
OH I am so thankful that MOM remembered you and DAD caved! That is a sad story but a beautiful ending to a life not so good. I have always been a doggie person, and I love my dog babes but since having Lily, I so wished I had tried cats before turning old (57). I wished she could teach them to use the litter box and to just veg on the deck without needing to go out every five mins. I so wished she could teach them to meow and not bark. haha….I am however very thankful that I… Read more »

Chaplin: “Yep because that’s how you got to come and have a home and become Dennis’s friend.”
Lulu: “And now you’re our friend.”
Charlee: “See? Everybody wins when the animals are remembered.”
Your story is so perfect, Brian, a perfect example of why we should never forget those in need. ♥
Millie was born out in the wild, and Gracie came from the Animal Shelter. We found out almost by accident that Gracie’s time was almost up!
