Thankful Thursday Blog Hop: Tornado Drill Practice

thankful thursday blog hop brian 04162020

Hello everyone, thanks for stopping by for our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. You all know that I am always thankful to each of you for joining us! Each and every Thursday we share the things for which we are most thankful and we always enjoy reading all of the things you are thankful for too. If you are new to our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop, thanks for hopping in, we really do get excited when new blogger pals join us!

Today I’m thankful for two things, tornado drill practice and no tornado.  We live in the South and while we can have tornadoes any old time, there seems to be more of them with Spring storms.  Well, on Monday, in the wee hours of the morning, like between 3 and 4 AM, we got to practice our tornado drill.  Why, there were tornadoes in the area and one watch zone was just a few miles from our house.

Our safe room is the small bathroom on the main floor, which is the most interior room we have.  During a tornado alert the Dad places a carrier for each of us in the hallway by the small bathroom.  If something gets to close we each are placed in our carriers and we all go in the small bathroom and shut the door.  Well, the carriers were out but we didn’t have to go in them this time, we didn’t have a tornado but we did have some pretty wicked storms.  Do you know what I did during the wicked storms?  I went into the small bathroom and laid by the carrier that’s designated as mine.  I know the drill and I was prepared.

I’m thankful we’ve practiced this in the past and have a plan.  I’m thankful that we didn’t have a bad tornado in our area.  I’m also thankful that the Dad stayed up all night to watch the alerts so he could keep us safe.  Oh, and I’m thankful that Simon and Seal didn’t run and hide, they stayed within grabbing range of the peeps.

It pays to be prepared, make sure you have an emergency plan and practice it.  What are you thankful for today?  Tell us in the comments and then join us for our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. Remember, adopt cats, we deserve it!!!!! More Forever Homes More Often! Purrrrr! Zip! Later!

What smart cats to stay close, and smart parents to be so well prepared! We have the carriers ready, but i know i would have to drag at least two of the cats out from UTB (under the bed) if this ever happened.

Tornados would be so scary. Thank heavens we don’t have those. We have forest fires….equally as scary….the sky goes black and its like 9pm at 2pm. Hopefully, this year will not be a bd one.

Going to your carrier is awesome….one smart kit!

I’m glad we don’t have tornadoes – our house is L-shaped and both sides of the L are pretty narrow, so there are really no interior rooms and only barely an interior hallway.

we are glad the drill went well and we hope no tornado will pass your area… that would be too much for peeps and pets this times….

So glad you have a tornado plan……we had some awful storms too but the tornado watch was southeast of us fortunately. Thanks for hosting the THANKFUL blog each week – we all have so much go be thankful for!

Love, Teddy

I am glad the tornado didn’t reach you. Brian, you are very smart to stay by your carrier in case it was an emergency.

I am thankful to read that you are thankful that the tornado did not effect you, and that you are prepared. with Big Boy we have a leash by each door to the outside and one by the bedroom window. that is good for fire drill, or any emergency. we don’t get tornados like yours, but once in a while a small one. our safe place is walk in closet. no windows in there

Well, tornado drills are good ideas. We don’t get many, and they aren’t as fierce as in some places but they are increasing locally. So we have a place in the basement where the heavy cement steps are on the outside and the stairs are above us and the area around it is surrounded with chicken wire so we won’t panic and run away from TBT if one comes near. And there is serious plywood all around except for the TBT-sized opening. It is good to feel prepared.

Great that you knew the plan and stayed close. Some kitties can sure be hard to catch. No tornadoes is always a win too.

We have tornadoes here too. Mom wakes us up in the night sometimes when we hear the sirens but only a few times have we had to go to the basement. Sometimes they are during the day too, but usually in the middle of the night it seems.

What a good reminder of a much needed drill and practicing! We have tornadoes at the drop of an eye here too. Mom isn’t as good about having a plan. She dry will work on it. I guess you may know we, you too, are in Dixie Alley, as they have started to call it.

That is a really good Thankful Brian and we are so glad you and the family are prepared for these nasty storms. We are thankful for having what we need during the other National Crises the nasty virus. It is so good to have Thankful friends because that means we are all doing well

Brian dear furiend, I’m glad you have a good plan and purractice it. Tornadoes seem to spring up and pounce much faster than hurricanes, which we generally have days to purrpare for. That all having been said, this wuhan bug is starting to get annoying…. not that I dislike having my humans home, but the beach is still closed and I’m thinking this is ridiculous…. Have you ever heard of a virus that could survive 2-3 hours of UV?????? Seems to me the logical thing to do would be send the ill to the beach for an afternoon sterilizing in… Read more »

Oh I’m very very thankful for no tornadoes. Brian we had the same drill with Angel Madi…I kept her PTU out and open so that she would become used to it and didn’t just think of it as a transport to the vet. Every so often she’d take a snooze in it.

Brian, that must have been scary!
We have carriers set out, should they be needed in a hurry. Except, we now have Sweetie inside, so we’ll have to bring in a carrier that’s been stored in the garage.
Maybe with the government check, I could buy Sleepypods for everyone!

I’m thankful y’all didn’t have to worry with a tornado. I’m thankful as well that we didn’t have to worry about this but folks in the Chattanooga area weren’t so fortunate. I’m thankful for the return of the sun and being healthy. 🙂

Brian, you are one smart fur baby! We have to chase Miss Bridget to get her into the crate when we go to the lower level during those scary siren times. We have quite a few wicked storms in middle Missouri that can stir up tornadoes too. We also have an emergency room stocked with essentials….just in case. Stay safe! X

So happy to read that you didn’t need to take shelter in the carriers – I don’t think dad and mom would have fit. LOL

It is good to see that you have a plan AND that you know exactly where to go. We haven’t had any really bad storms yet, but we know it is the season. We have a plan too. We hope everyone else does as well.

We agree, we don’t get tornadoes, but we do get wildfires and earthquakes and it’s always a good idea to have a good emergency plan!

That is a great plan. I don’t know how he could get all you kitties together in the face of a storm. He is a cat master.

Tornadoes are scary! We never had one then last summer we had an alert. Pop picked me up and brought me into the bathroom and we stayed together until they lifted the alert. We didn’t have a tornado but they did touch down in NJ.
