Mancat Monday: Wondering If Google Dislikes Bloggers with Brian

mancat monday brian 04192021

Hello everyone, I hope you’re having a really good Mancat Monday. It’s been sunny and bright in our neck of the woods and there hasn’t been any of those thunder boomers around. That’s the way we like it, sunpuddles for everyone!

Okay, about that title. I’m not really sure that Google dislikes bloggers, after all they do own Blogger. I do hear lots of you fussing though every time they make a change to Blogger without any input from those of you who actually use it. Don’t y’all find that new and improved ususall isn’t?

Anyways, Google also owns Feedburner and many of us, even us WordPress bloggers, use that to send out our Follow By Email notices to subscribers when we have a new post. We’ve been blogging since 2008 and we do have lots of email subscribers. We also subscribe to lots of blogs so we can get an email when you post something new.

Well, we got an email the other day that Google was going to new and improve their Feedburner product. As most of you might have noticed, those emails that we have a new post doesn’t always come. So, we thought hooray, they’re going to fix it. NOT! Part of their new and improved is doing away with the piece of Feedburner that sends out those emails for us. Dang, that was the only piece of Feedburner that was worth a hoot. We’re testing out something new, specific to Wordpres, and fortunately we’ve got until July. When we’re done with testing we’ll move our subscribers to our new platform, it’s been tricky so far though.

That’s it for today. Y’all have a terrific Mancat Monday, I will see you again on Thankful Thursday. Remember, adopt cats, we deserve it!!!!! More Forever Homes More Often! Purrrrr! Zip! Later!

I miss old good Blogger. Now the blogger has many useless widgets and functions…really annoying.

We do think Google has some likes and dislikes when it comes to their competition. We used feedburner for quite a while but then switched to MailChimp a few years ago. They have to keep improving everything and it is not always a real improvement, but rather a disaster!

Memories of Eric and Flynn

I have never used Feedburner or any of the other email notifications. I used to use the original Reader, then Google Reader. When they stopped that I changed to Feedly. It is pretty good at giving me everybody’s latest post. It has had a coupe of blips over the past week where one or two post notifications were late. I am wondering if maybe they are getting a lot more subscribers and that is what caused it.

We got that message too, but the biped won’t worry about it, since she’s only blogging occasionally for herself now. That said, we don’t understand why, when they “improve” things, they take away functionality!

Yes, t’was a disappointment, and no “alternative” was offered. Presume what you are testing is for WordPress bloggers only, not for we who use google, correct? I’ve let a few know who do use Mail Chimp that I NEVER get their posts, so what is the point of that service. Getting posts by email is the best way to get not just favorites; but no way can one “visit” hundreds of pet blogs just to see if one has posted on any given day … I see this as a very huge loss. If anyone has suggestions for other ways… Read more »

That’s one handsome boy in the photo! It is a pain when Blogger changes things and they always seem to “fix” what’s not broken instead of fixing the things that are – so frustrating!

I did not realize feedburner would also effect wordpress users. I thought I only had 2 using it, but when I checked there are 1229 people on it. I had hoped blogger would give us instructions on how to live without it, other than just how to save the addresses. keep us posted…

I have been aggravated with Feedburner for well over a year. Your blog and many, many others that I subscribe to stopped coming to me over a year ago…….I gave up.

Seems new and improved are encrypted words for ‘OMCS/OMDs your life is about to become so very unimproved and complicated’!!

I’m signed up to receive many new post notifications but rarely get one

I don’t have the expertise to do that, and I would say my visitors will drop substantially. I am looking forward to those bloggers who can get the news they have a new blog, out.

I gave up on blogger a long time ago and love WordPress. That’s my system for subscribing and it’s working very well. I hope you get this worked out to your satisfaction.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Scritches to all the kitties and my best to your peeps. ♥

I did notice that the emails didn’t always arrive. I don’t like it when computer stuff gets all changed around. WordPress does it too, I’m one of many who doesn’t like the new block editor. Not at all.
Anyway we are also enjoying the sunshine Brian, and you look marvelous in the picture!

Techies are always trying out new stuff but a lot of us non-techies get left behind in the dust sometimes. Sometimes not of course but whatever happened to “uncomplicated blogging” ??? HAHA

Fortunately, I moved the majority of my email blog subscribers elsewhere quite a while ago. So there are only a pawful of people still on the Feedburner email to switch over.

Don’t they know most hate change? Unless it’s a tastier cat food variety.

Every time blogging gets harder, TW thinks she can’t quit blogging die soon enough. She tries to figure out a solution and help others do the same. We imported our subscriber list and thought we did everything right in another platform. Wrong. We can’t find a place on the new platform to test so the joke is on us as the empty emails get sent. Our readers may just have to trust there’s a new post every Friday cos TW doesn’t need the stress.

Sometimes I believe the geeky people who write these codes have nothin better to do but change up things that work just to see all of us get upset.

yeah that Feedburner notice is irritating but I’m just letting it go.

Grr, Midnight & Cocoa's Family

We’ve just been going to the Catblogosphere and visiting from the links there. Still trying to figure out how to work all these things after being away for years. That’s why our blog looks so empty and plain. We’ll get to it someday and then we can be frustrated too! 🙂

When it comes to computers, change is often not good at all. However, in Google’s defense, I have to say that I’ve been happy that they’ve continued to support Blogger at all. Blogging is not as popular as it once was yet they do keep Blogger going.

Enjoy those sun puddles!

Ivan and Izzy from WMD

Yeah, we are not fond of change either, and we don’t even use Feedburner!

We have the same problem, Brian. We used Feedburner too. And now we have to find something else. We were looking at MailChimp but not sure about it. We’d be interested in knowing what you are trying out. ~Ernie and the mom

Marv, Jo Jo, Kozmo, Cinnamon & Barb

Brian, you look terrific! You are the Man in Man Cat Monday! Mom thinks the Feedburner change is part of the whole Google/Apple/Microsoft “wars” that are happening. Google wants everyone to be on Chrome, Apple on i0S, and Microsoft on Windows. And they are not playing together very well at all these days. We have noticed recently, that we are having issues posting onto some WordPress.org blogs. We were going to see if we could figure that out, but the Feedburner “announcement” and issues with our iPhone and Google have been taking up our techie time (Mom prefers gardening these… Read more »

Hey Brian, if you know that ‘improvements’ are to be dreaded, you’re smarter than the humans! They recently ‘improved’ WordPress too and we hates it!
