I can’t tell you how happy I am to review the latest book from Hilary Grossman. It’s always guaranteed to be a fun time whenever we get to catch up with the wild and crazy Forest River Elementary PTA Moms. Mom Rules is the 4th book in this series.
Here’s the official book blurb:
Donna Warren is not who everyone thinks she is….
It’s no secret – to survive in a superficial town like Forest River, New York, where perfection is a requirement –a mom must follow the rules.
For the past five years, Donna has worked hard to exceed social expectations. She held the prestigious role of PTA treasurer, and her best friend, Jackie, is the most powerful woman at the elementary school.
But in a town where most mothers earn their black belt in backstabbing before their offspring enter pre-k, something was bound to go wrong…
And it did. Now, her former bestie has become her mortal enemy and destroyed Donna’s reputation. Eager to believe the rampant rumors, half the elementary school mommies think Donna is a drama queen and the rest believe she is a vindictive witch.
As she and her children’s social standing dangles on thin ice, Donna is willing to try anything to fix her mistake. Unfortunately, all her efforts backfire, and she makes everything worse. Just when Donna is about to give up, she receives some shocking news. Forced to face the most difficult situation of her life, will she finally become the woman she wants to be?
My Review:
When I finished Mom Boss, the book in the series prior to this one, Hilary told us that Donna’s story was up next. I couldn’t imagine anything about Donna Warren being the least bit interesting, she was quite the nasty one. Boy was I wrong.
Donna Warren, as it turns out, sure isn’t anything like I thought she was and not only was I taken aback by all of the challenges she was facing, and all at once yet, , I gained a new respect for Donna as she learned to navigate her new normal.
Jackie, the head honcho of the PTA and, for a while, Donna’s best friend. was quick to turn on a dime when she thought that Donna had betrayed her. Jackie will stop an nothing to get even and the friendship turns caustic on a dime.
Mia, a series regular, is a hoot, but a noncommittal hoot. It’s funny how the layers of Mia’s personalty were peeled back. Mia and Donna always had a somewhat standoffish relationship but things do get a little better between Mia and Donna.
Then there was the accident involving Jackie’s husband.and an accident on a school field trip that puts things into perspective. Will it change anything between Donna and Jackie? And exactly what does Donna have planned for her future in Forest City? All is answered in heartwarming and humorous Hilary fashion.
I highly recommend not only Mom Boss, but the entire Mom Wars series, which will be available as a boxed set on July 21st, they are so worthy of your reading time. Mom Boss is available on Amazon, Nook, Kobo and Google. Don’t forget to visit Hilary at FeelingBeachie.com.
Note: I was given a prepublication copy by the author in exchange for my fair and honest review..
