Howdy everyone, thanks once again for stopping by for our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. I am always thankful to each of you for joining us! Each and every Thursday we share the things for which we are most thankful and we always enjoy reading all of the things you are thankful for too. If you are new to our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop, thanks for hopping in, we really do get excited when new blogger pals join us!
Today on Thankful Thursday I’m thankful for food. Oh, I’m eating again, but that’s not what I’m talking about, nope. I’m talking about actually having food to eat when you want it. I know I’ve seen some of your posts on social media, if you’re a cat the food shelves are bare. Even online, you want it, they ain’t got it. There is tons of dog food in stock, maybe we need to switch.
But, if you purrsevere maybe you can find some, and our Dad did. We, the inside crew eat mostly Fancy Feast Pate, and the outside crew, and there’s lots of them, eat Friskies. Like I said, we’re finding some but it’s pretty sparse online and there is zero in our local stores. Even the online point-of-sale systems are confused. They will show 60 in stock, we add it to our cart and they kick it right back out staying it’s not in stock. Dad checks multiple times a day and you must be there when they add it to their inventory or it’s gone in a skinny minute.
We’re thankful that some arrived today and some more is supposed to show up tomorrow. I wish we could find something else besides the Purina products, we’ve tried everything under the sun We like the ‘new stuff” for the first couple of days and then nope, we won’t eat it. I know y’all aren’t like that at all.
So, what are you thankful for today? Tell us in the comments and then join us for our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. Remember, adopt cats, we deserve it!!!!! More Forever Homes More Often! Purrrrr! Zip! Later!
The kitties here are on a special diet and Chewy ships it. Even if we have plenty, we don’t refuse when they autoship so we stay a couple of bags ahead.
Here’s hoping you can find your food more easily soon!
Uy yo estoy agradecida de mis perritas. Y por suerte ellas no son muy remilgadas con la comida aunque si en ocasiones. Te mando un beso
We sure are glad Dad was able to get your foods, Brian. The shortages going on right now are really disturbing!
So true. Mom makes a few trips to the pet store to get the food we like to eat and since she’s also feeding a lot of feral/outdoor cats she has to almost camp to get the food she buys for them. One time, she got one of the store workers to get the food in the pallet before they can even unpack and shelve the merchandise.
I can’t believe these shortages! Since I eat raw and we shop at boutique pet stores (the places I can accompany my human), it’s not something that affects us. But it is certainly impacting loads of my pals!
Try raw meat, Brian :-)) You are going to LOVE it!
That’s what WE eat! Lucy, Chia and Xena
I hope mom and dad don’t have issue finding kitty food. Our local store hardly have any pet food on the shelves.
Coffee is on and stay safe
Wait – What? You’re still here??
So glad to see it!
Kristin
Since 2 years ago, when our Mom sees it (even in the drug store) she buys it! Our stores have never really recovered. We have expanded our tastes and we will eat any Friskies, Fancy Feast and Whiskas food. Mom says it is a good thing that we have expanded! But we gotta say our FAVORITE is still Rotisserie chicken from the store!
your dad is the best. we have food problems too, the bad thing is, the stores replace it with other food, the customers are not amused….
That is good you can get it. I am lucky to get our Royal Canin for the cats.
I am glad your dad has ben able to get food supplies for you. It must be such a worry.
My food isn’t available in stores – they don’t carry it – it’s a weight control diet from Royal Canin and I love it…..Mom usually has to check several websites before she scores some of it. She gets a little upset though when she walks by the loaded shelves of the dog food area into the empty aisles of the cat food area……crazy. Hopefully one day things will get “right” again in grocery stores!
Hugs, Teddy
Hi Pam! Did you check with your Vet? Some of them carry Royal Canin. Mine does but not the one that Roary eats because he eats non-prescription Royal Canin
The food shortages are just awful and really scary. We are happy that your peeps were able to find some for you and your kitty family, Brian.
Oh, Good Heavens, your second-to-last paragraph is totally me. Oh sure, at first I gobble gobble gobble it up, then I’m all like, “Okay, what else ya got for me?” It is crazy, isn’t it, the way shelves are becoming more and more empty. Crazy times, I say, crazy times. Y’all stay safe, warm and dry, near-neighbors. It looks like parts of the Carolinas might be in for some wintry mix in the coming days.
reading this post takes me back to my child hood and our outside dogs, daddy did not allow pets in the house. the only thing our dogs ate were scraps and left overs and if there were none, stale bread with powdered milk. no idea why that popped in my head, but this is why you are thankful for your online watcher finding Just What You Love for you…. I am thankful you have what you want ad also thankful we have what we want. the way things are going we may all not get what we want but what… Read more »
That is a serious problem. It is hard to believe that in America we can’t get the food we want and need. Life has really turned crazy. It is a problem now for humans too. Hope you get something decent soon.
Wow! Does anyone know why there are cat food shortages? We haven’t noticed any here in France. We’re glad you have plentiful food, Brian!
Purrs,
Tama and Benny
We’ve noticed here too that certain brands aren’t available at all on the shelves and it’s been like that for quite a while. Also, the price of some cat food on Amazon is extortionate, some sellers are asking £6 – £8 for a small box of kibble that would normally cost £1.99!
Anyhoo, we’re glad mew’ve got supplies! Happy Purrsday supurr friends!
I want to know WHY they aren’t manufacturing the food. Only dog food. As I said in Katie’s blog…these worn, out dated excuses we see told by pet owners to excuse the manufacturers are false. This seems deliberate.
We’re glad your dad found your food, Brian. It’s crazy here too. Derry’s on that vet food trial (Hills z/d), and while there’s ample dry (and I just stocked up on more, in case there’s a supply issue there), the canned has been out of stock for several weeks now. They have the dog version in stock, but nope, not the feline. And the last time I went into our local PetSmart, the cat food shelves were almost bare. I don’t know what the problem is, but given that cats as pets actually outnumber dogs as pets in North America,… Read more »
This is a problem. Riley eats Honest Kitchen, and they keep running out of formulas and he has to keep eating different ones. He’s not complaining. The rest of us eat raw, and the price has gone way up, or so we hear. XOX Xena, Lucy, Chia and Riley
It takes time and detective work to get cat food theses days! I’m thankful that nobody is going hungry.
xxoo
We have also been having the same issue and all we like is Purina stuff too. Although Sammy is on a Royal Canin prescription diet that was out of stock for 6 months. Thanks for hosting. Have a great day. XO
What a fantastic picture of you, Brian! Quite artful. I think a lot of cats are very fussy about their food. I know Dani is. But I’ll bet the outside cats are very thankful for theirs.
As I mentioned in our post, we are thankful for hats that keep our heads warm in winter, and for all the birds who do so much for this planet.
I know your peeps are on top of this for you and I know they will make sure you have the food you need and love. It’s a shame this is still happening. Fingers and toes crossed that this shortage goes away soon.
Thank you for hosting the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.
Have a purrfect Thankful Thursday. Scritches all around and my best to your wonderful peeps. ♥
We’re thankful for food too and are lucky that, so far, ours is always available at the pet store. Our mom has seen the empty shelves in the cat food aisle and is worried for all the kitties out there that can’t find the food they like.
Today was grocery day here. This is the first time in probably 3 weeks I have seen someone stocking the cat food section and OMCs it was Fancy Feast Pate
Hugs Cecilia
It is crazy out there, we go from store to store until we find enough, whew! We have even started looking at homemade recipes just in case. We roast chicken and give them that a few times a week to make things go further, but we can’t do that all the time as it doesn’t have the vitamins and supplements the kitties need. I sure hope they solve this shortage soon.
we’ve been on the food merrygoround too. It’s really scary, and even humans food is scarce here. I mean we order from whole foods for delivery out here, and they will be out of bread. Or cheese. Chicken.
We are trying less ingredient dog foods hoping to stop the infections/allergy if food is the cause… I can’t imagine all the outside cats who count on you now… how do you explain? glad you’ve found some for now… I suppose now is all we have but it is tiring to be constantly searching and can’t just assume it will be there.
dood…..tell dad ta chex and see if therz a Pet Supplies Plus neer yur houz….trooth….
we heer ya bout de canned goodz and kibblez…..knock wood and tozz salt both me
and cuzin daiz iz prettee good at eatin whooz ever but de gurl still seez and buyz….
litter az well, coz it waz hard ta come buy all sew ~~~~~
♥♥
Brian, we are glad to read that your tummies are full!
We have had many items left on back-order, but others are available, so *knock wood*, no cat goes hungry ’round here!
We are struggling to get special diet noms, especially for ChauncieMarie. The k/d keeps getting backordered. Mom is stressing, although she does have a stockpile of other cans that we rejected throughout last year, getting the quirts or barfy. She’s using them to pad our plates under our usual noms. Purrsonally I think this is a sneaky ruse of manufacturers to up the prices of cat noms, cuz us cats are clearly ready to take over the world. Purrs, Rabbit
Oh dear- are those ships still tuck down in Los Angeles? Or is the manufacturere not making the food? I am like some other folks- If I see Fancy Feast on the shelves I buy some- maybe 3 boxes- not hoarding- but what is causing these shortages?
Glad to hear you are happily eating and feeling well!
We are glad you have found some of your food and hope more arrives soon. We keep hearing about the pet food shortages, but we are OK so far. Mom tries to stay ahead of the supply, especially in the winter when kibble keeps well in the cold garage. We think our next autoship is coming up soon. Maybe Mom needs to add another bag to the order.
Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber
Same here. Mom couldn’t find Reesie’s favorite and finally got one carton on Amazon.
I’m glad your dad was persistent and was able to get your food. We have been able to get our food, but we also see empty store shelves here. Hopefully it’s mostly the recent winter storms that are causing the problems and things will be back to normal quickly.
I’m glad your dad was able to find you some food.
All of the frozen food I tried to buy online was out of stock this week.
You have a very special Dad to get you the food you like ~ Xo
Wishing you happy times,

So glad you have the food you like ! Mom has not been able to get any of the specialty Royal Canin wet foods I normally eat in ages (heaven help them if they run out of my dry food!) She is besides herself trying to find me something I will ingest. She just ordered new food last night because she is tired of breaking into all of the current brands and having to toss them when I either lick it once or sniff it and walk away. However there is a delay in getting even what’s in stock so… Read more »
These cat food shortages are ridiculous! Dogs don’t have a problem…why do cats???
It is hard to understand why food is in short supply for cats and people! Your Dad is really taking good care of all of you. He will never let you, or the strays he takes care of, be hungry. Right now, I am having a hard time finding the litter my cats use. It’s pellets and much cleaner and neater than other litter. This is important because the litter boxes are in the bathrooms. Nobody wants to walk on litter.
I read different reasons for the shortage and I doubt them all — shortage of aluminum cans? the particular vitamins needed for the food are in short supply and transportation/supply chain issues? I keep checking Chewy and we have our paws crossed but haven’t been too successful. We have a small (non chain grocery store close by and find some of what we like there….higher prices but, I’m happy to pay it.
It’s incredibly frustrating, and I don’t see it getting better anytime soon.
COVID and supply issues are really messing things up. Last time I went to get Lily’s wet food, I had no issues getting it at the pet store. Same as the dry food. Lucky that I also found Chey’s dry food and I cook her main food. Its almost as cheap to cook her chicken as to buy her some wet food. I know that Dad will stay on top of all this and he is not going to let any of you go hungry. Glad you are eating well….
Brian, we are Fancy Feast fans too. Mom has tried other brands for us but even Izzy won’t adapt, and you know that’s pretty bad! We won’t even eat fancy Fancy Feasts like the Gourmet Naturals. We know our mom won’t let us starve just as your dad won’t let you starve, but this is really a stupid situation. On the plus side, if we can’t get our FF, there’s always KFC! 😉
Purina has been hit very hard with the stocking problems, trucking issues, tin shortage, and other factors. I hope it ends soon so you always have food. Your dad might have to find out when the truck comes to the store and be there when they unpack the skids so you get your food.
I was able to get 24 cans of Purina Pro Plan Cat Food for Roary on Chewy today.
So glad your dad found your food anyway, Brian. Don’t be afraid, I think the food will be back soon. Stay positive🙏Pawkisses for a Happy Weekend to all of you🐾😽💞
Lucky kitties, indoors and out, to have such a great DAD. That online experience is frustrating for sure and they shouldn’t be able to let you add to cart if there isn’t any. But happy that folks gave some tips in the comments. Odd things are scarce here too. Take care all!
Roary eats Royal Canin Adult Instinctive (in the 3 ounce cans) and I normally have it on AutoShip on Chewy. It’s completely unavailable. But…….I was able to get Purina Pro Plan (for cats) in 3 ounce cans….slices of chicken and rice with gravy. I feel as if I hit the lottery! He has 24 cans coming tomorrow. I normally don’t feed him that but I am sure he will be fine. Nothing wrong with it. I think I was able to get Purina maybe because they make sooooo much and probably had these made? Who knows? Royal Canin I think… Read more »
We’ve been very fortunate in the cat food selection. Best wishes and hugs to all!
