Sister Saturday with Macy:  Avoiding a Catastrophe

sister saturday macy 01 10142023

Hello everyone, thanks for coming by to see me today.  I know you all know what a lousy week we had here with Brian departing for the Rainbow Bridge.  Could things get worse?  Well, almost.  Fortunately for me, a Catastrophe was avoided with the help of who we are now calling Macy’s Heroes.  What went wrong?  Here’s the culprit…

sister saturday macy 02 10142023

Can you tell what that thing is?  It’s the under-part of a recliner that makes the thing go up and down.  There was a recliner in the big bedroom that wasn’t used by the peeps, only by us cats.  It was a Simon hidey place under it and Seal used to nap on the seat part.

sister saturday macy 03 10142023

Wednesday afternoon the quiet was disrupted when I got my right front paw and claw caught in that contraption.  I was screaming bloody murder, pulling trying to get my paw and claw free. The Dad said it was like one of the horrible things on the TV where a wild animal gets caught is a paw trap.

There was no getting me loose.  The Dad was holding me trying to keep me still.  I bit and scratched him (yes, he went and got meds for that).  The Mom called 911 and the fire department came.  We had four firemen and the fire chief here to help me.  They worked as quickly as they could.  They methodically took the recliner apart and freed my paw.  They will forever be known here as Macy’s heroes.

The Dad took me to the Vet as soon as the firemen left.  I had x-rays and fortunately nothing was broken, just some soft tissue damage. My right front paw is swollen. I got an anti-inflammatory shot, Gabapentin for pain, and an anti-inflammatory pill pack. All in all I’m feeling pretty lucky.

The recliner is no more.

I need a rest.  Have a fun Sister Saturday everyone.  Remember, adopt cats, we deserve it!!!!! More Forever Homes More Often! Purrrrr! Zip! Later!

Macy, what a horrible thing to happen. A horrible thing. It makes the rest of us afraid that it may happen to us as well. Having a recliner is not worth that! You poor girl!. Lots of love and I hope you feel better. XXXXX

Oh my dear Macy. What a catastrophe and thank goodness for the fire department being willing to come and help a kitty out of what could have been a very life-threatening position. You simply have to be a little more careful when you’re climbing and playing. And Poor Dad, scratches and bites.

Oh, Macy … we kind-a think Angel Brian was also there, watching over you ‘n’ Dad to be sure neither of you were badly injured during this awful event … of course the fire-angels-on-earth were heroes, coming to your rescue and we give them a big round of applause. To share: June’s famous polka dot chair is a recliner (still with us, of course). At around age one, and still being small, she literally got fully inside it. All efforts to help her out were to no avail. No teasing with food, treats … could not “pull” her out due… Read more »

this is so horrible i had trouble reading it after i saw that contraption. God bless the firemen who came to rescue you. You are my first ever fireman rescue from recliner story. have seen many rescue from tree or rooftops. I am so sorry your paw is swollen and glad you are not permanently injured. Beaus daddy got one of his electric planes in the top of a oak tree, accross the street was the fire dept. he walked over and asked if anyone could get his plane down. the fire Captain and two men drove a ladder truck… Read more »

I am very thankful Dad got meds for his injuries…we all know how quickly they and get serious. I am truly thankful that your paw is ok and that the monster recliner is gone. We have a huge and very couch with a recliner on each end. YEARS ago Milky-way once hid in it when I was trying to get him in his PTU. I had to postpone his check up.… Read more »

Oh my!! I’m so glad you’ll be okay! And now with the recliner gone, y’all all will be safe! I know your Dad and Mom are relieved that nothing worse happened! And really good thinking on your Mom’s part to call the Fire Department!! Thankfully, the Z Kids don’t fit under our recliners so I don’t have to worry about a similar accident. You take it easy little one!!

OMG YOU POOR THING MACY!!!!!! I am sooooooo happy you are ok!!!! I refuse to buy recliners after many, many years ago my Angel Bobo got trapped INSIDE OF ONE!!!! Thankfully we were able to get him out but I will never, ever have a recliner again. That was nice of the firemen to come out!! We called them once when we thought kitten Roary was trapped under our china cabinet. Of course he came out right before they got here. You had to all be so scared! Glad Dad is ok as well, that had to be beyond traumatic.… Read more »
