Thankful Thursday Blog Hop:  Pet Insurance Is In the Works

thankful thursday blog hop maxwell 03282024

Hello everyone, it’s me Maxwell and I’m here for Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. Thanks to you all for stopping by. We are always thankful to each of you for joining us!  Each and every Thursday we share the things for which we are most thankful and we always enjoy reading all of the things you are thankful for too. If you are new to Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop, thanks for hopping in, we really do get excited when new blogger pals join us!

Today might be a bit unusual, but I think we’re going to be thankful to be covered by some sort of pet insurance. I say that might be a bit unusual because really, none of us like to go to the Vet. Oh, our Vets our nice, but we’re not really big fans of going there. So, the Dad has been shopping around for pet insurance and is getting close to wrapping up this project. With eight of us here it would be nice to get something covered and to get a reimbursement for some things once in a while and the Dad would be thankful for that.

Now then, I’d like to ask you for your input. Do you have pet insurance? If so, who do you use and what do you like about them? Pet bloggers can sure be helpful so we thought we’d ask. We will be thankful for any input we get.

So, what are you thankful for today? Tell us in the comments and then join us for our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.  Hey Pet Bloggers, don’t forget to leave your daily link over at The Cat Blogosphere for a chance to grab an entry for the end of the month drawing.  Okay, that’s it for now!  Remember, adopt cats, we deserve it!!!!! More Forever Homes More Often! Purrrrr! Zip! Later!

We dislike buying insurance of any kind, so we have no advice.
If there was a way to make cat food cheaper in cost, but high in quality, I’m all in on that!

Mariette VandenMunckhof-Vedder

Maxwell, surely a kitty family of eight is in need of some support for veterinarian costs. We went from eight to three so that feels different.
Good luck in finding some coverage!

Hi Maxwell! It’s great that you took over what Angel Brian was doing pawtastic! Mmmm…About insurance, when my pawrents got me as a two month old pup, they researched a lot but decided not to do so. They put more for my permanent microchip. Juno xoxo

We have ASPCA insurance. It has a high deductable. My parents have it in case there was something that wojuld costs thousands of dollar.

All of our cats are insured Brian. Not cheap but it has saved us several thousand dollars (remember Miranda being attacked by an arrow last year?) You may find some insurance companies have an upper age limit for cats so check that out. On the upside, some companies will give you a bulk discount for having a certain number of cats. We are with PetCover who may be part of worldwide company, I don’t know. Find out that the ‘excess’ is before you pay – some are more OK than others. Research, Research, Research. The excess goes up with age… Read more »

We don’t have any, but have thought about it. If you get a new pet these days, I think it’s a great idea but don’t know which one is best.

We don’t have insurance, but with 8 kitties in the house, that might be a good idea.

Oh, that is a subject we have discussed but found no reasonable anseres…read reasonable prices. Papa says we could have insured my tummy like some stars insure their legs or whatever but I wasn’t big on that. Snorgles are great but there is a limit. Maxwell, you are one gorgeous guy.

This Thursday, I’m thankful for Mishka and Laila my furry companions (doggos) and I;m thankful for a cat just like Maxwell who will one day adopt me. :))

I have no idea why my profile image in this comment looks like that. Ha! Ha!

So wonderful to have you hop by and do we have a new little kid on the clock, Titan? Oh!I’ve missed not being around.

Big paw kisses and love and prayers for Dadda to get all the insurance, in no time for you sweethearts. xoxox

Pet insurance seems like a good idea – people have health insurance and it helps with the high cost of care so why not pet insurance – it’s not exactly cheap even when we just get a checkup! We do NOT have pet insurance….Mom has thought about it – after all I’m 8 years old and won’t be getting younger and probably will have some medical issues as I age……but I’ve not really heard anything BAD about any pet insurance carriers. I’m thinking since you all have a “herd” of kitties (!) it would be a good investment though. Hugs,… Read more »

Memories of Eric and Flynn

We have never had insurance for any of the cats but we did have insurance for my horses until they were older and the premium doubled. We knew we would always find the money when needed.

Maxwell, ask your dad if he remembers the TV show Eight is Enough. I would say that with eight children you do need health insurance. With only Precious here I have never gone down that route before. We will be interested in how this turns out for your family.

Mom is fine with paying for all the regular check ups and things, but for us insurance is for emergencies and unplanned health issues. We have Healthy Paws and are quite happy. We chose our deductible and the claims we have had like the big one for my emergency and surgery in January worked very well. The amount they owed was deposited in our account within a few days of submitting the claim online. We had a small dispute which was also resolved in our favor after getting them vet documentation within about two weeks. They also covered Nelson’s expensive… Read more »

As with most of us here, each time Mom has had another cat in the family, insurance was debated but as with you, I researched and in my case, I did not find one I felt good about. I tried to have money on hand to pay for surprises.

We have no insurance here and probably won’t. There are just two kitties and we think we can handle their expenses. It’s something to think about though.

I’m thankful that Squeaker is home from her spay and doing well. Lil’ Bit hisses at her and want’s nothing to do with her, but we know that will correct itself in the near future.

Thank you for hosting the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday and rest of the week. Scritches to all the kitties and my best to your peeps. ♥

Pet insurance is only starting to be a thing in France, and it’s happening at the same time as so many vets are being bought up by big practices/companies and hiking up their prices. In the UK this has already happened and average vet costs are much higher than in France.

no pet insurance in TT. after researching and reading the fine print, and learning ( the hard way from some friends who had it, and their misery lets say, after all was said and done )

what’s really covered and isn’t, due to pre existing, age, etc etc. didn’t meet the expectations.

I opened a savings account and deposit the “monthly premiums “ there…plus I get a whole three cents interest…oh boy 😺‼️🐟

We don’t have insurance because it’s very expensive for us big dogs and thankfully it’s never been much of an issue for our parents. We understand how it would be important with a house full of kitties.

We’ve never had Pet Insurance here either. Mom looked at the cost and the things that are not covered and just figured it wasn’t worth it for us.

I need to do this too. I will ask my niece what kind she has. When her dog had cancer it covered 90% of everything. I’ll let you know what kind it was. Thanks for hosting. Have a great day. XO

Chaplin: “Yep, we all have pet insurance here! After Tucker’s catastrophically high vet bills—” Java Bean: “Ayyy, ‘catastrophically’? Don’t you mean ‘dogastrophically’?” Chaplin: “—Mama and Dada decided that all their pets should have insurance in the future.” Charlee: “Good thing, too, since once Dennis got sick he started racking up the bills, too. One year, between his heart and his hips, he hit his maximum payout of over $10,000. No way could Mama and Dada have afforded that without the insurance.” Lulu: “Most of us have Pet’s Best, but Oona has Embrace.” Oona: “Oona has the special Ninja Plan that… Read more »

No pet insurance here, just people insurance. I hope your mom and dad find a good alternative to help shoulder some of the financial burden. Medical costs for 2-legged and 4-legged critters is plain expensive and it’s never any fun for anyone when a doctor is needed. Stay healthy, little furriends! 🐾😽

When I investigated insurance for my several pets, I found each would require a separate policy. Since they are older and some have preexisting conditions, I didn’t feel it was economically feasible for us. I f I were younger and had younger pets I might invest.

Seville at NerissasLife

We’ve never had pet insurance ’cause way back when, when there were twelve of us, the companies we looked at required insurin’ each of us separately.

We also think pet insurance is a good idea…The pawrents will get it on any future pet as Sunny and Angel Arty are/were “Vet Intensive”. We would be interested in reading how your Dad came/comes to a choice!

Tails Around the Ranch

Good luck deciding on which carrier to use. I looked into pet insurance when I adopted Elsa but alas she started having seizures within 2 weeks of adoption and thus she was excluded because of a ‘previous condition.’ I’ve looked again recently and discovered it’s as pricey as human health insurance. Yikes!

Nope my babes have not been in the need of pet insurance. But so glad it is there just in case anyone needs it. Mine stay pretty healthy which is amazing in itself cause there are times I think about hanging Lily by her tail, which would prob mean the tail would need looking at……its the EARLY morning MEOW wakeups that get the better of me…lol…you know I am kidding.

Hi! Yes, I do have pet insurance for the Z Kids. Thankfully, I haven’t had to use it because it’s basically for non-routine care. But PetsBest is the company I use. They do have a routine care plan, but I did not sign up for it. I didn’t feel that the additional premium was justified considering the benefit payout. I’ve been reconsidering the option; but just haven’t had the time to sit down and do the math.

I got an insurance policy for Mudpie shortly after I adopted her, but decided to cancel it this year. I’m thankful to have never used it, but I felt like I would’ve been better off putting the premium money into the piggy bank for her vet care. As she’s gotten older the premium was going up astronomically in spite of my raising the deductible, plus the company had been offering a discount for every year that you didn’t make a claim which you could use towards your deductible, which they did away with.

Of course, keeping up with vet bills for one cat is a lot easier than 8! So I can certainly see where it would be a good thing for your family.

Hey guys, we gave up on Pet Insurance in 2020 as the premiums went sky-high. Instead, we opened a bank account and put the same amount that the insurance company would have had into it. We have a supurr nest egg now which pays for all our vet visits and anything else we may need medically. Happy Friday, and Happy Easter!

I am so thankful that Layla is healthy at 18 years old phew and for your Thankful Thursday Blog Hop as it makes me realize how lucky I am. As for pet insurance Layla being an emotional support dog is covered by one of the non profit organizations here in San Francisco so I do not need it, or that I am really blessed and thankful. Happy Easter to all of you with love from us

Sorry to be late to the party. Mom has investigated pet insurance, but we don’t have it. Just too many of us. She is certain it could have helped with Lily Olivia and Fiona and could help with Sawyer, but she thinks in the long run, insurance would have cost more than what she paid for care of those three cats. Good luck finding the right one for your gang. XOCK, angels Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta & Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy, Sawyer, Kizmet, Audrey & Raleigh

Cat and Dog Chat With Caren

Hoping I’m not late to stick my two cents worth in! I can’t believe you never had pet insurance! OMG I learned the hard way with my Angel Bobo when I had to borrow money for his kidney stone surgery (he had 6 stones at once). I have had Trupanion insurance for a looooong time. They do not cover pre-existing conditions (as most don’t) and I have a $500 deductible per case. Once the deductible is met you get usually around 90% back (If you pay upfront, some Vets have Trupanion Direct pay, which means they pay the Vet directly… Read more »
