Sister Saturday with Seal and Her DNA

Hello everone, it’s me Seal, but you figured that one out already didn’t you?!?! I have something a bit different for you today, it’s my DNA report. Our friends over at Meezer’s Mews & Terrieristical Woofs recently had a DNA report done on Benji and it was a surprise to them. Well, when we had mine done it was a surprise to us too.

See what I mean, we thought I was somewhat oriental, but I’m mostly Maine Coon and Polycat. Who knew?!?! The Mom and Dad never knew where I came from, I just appeared in the backyard here about the same time that Simon did. No doubt about Simon, he probably has some Maine Coon DNA and the peeps always thought that Simon was from a litter of one of our ferals before they were all trapped and fixed. Simon and I could actually be brother and sister then.

The DNA tests also break down medical risks and the good news is that I’m not at risk for anything out of the ordinary. It was a quick and easy test and I didn’t mind it at all. Now then, I just have to adjust to being a Maine Coon gal but that’s okay, I understand that the purebred Maine Coon Angel Ivan that used to live here was very special.

  1. WOW….who knew?! My Mom has been saying she might do a DNA test on me since I’m so HUGE but so far she hasn’t pestered me for that. Sure is interesting to know what DNA we have isn’t it! The important thing is that you have a happy home no matter what DNA you have!

  2. Well Seal, first, what absolutely gorgeous pictures of you today! And then, big WOW, that DNA is not what I would have expected at all!!

  3. Whatever “bits ‘n’ pieces” went into creating you, Seal, each and every one is just you and beautifully you. There never was, never will be … another.

  4. Seal, that was a surprise to me too! I didn’t know you could have your fur babies’ DNA tested, so it’s pretty cool that your humans did! Regardless of breed mix, though, you’re gorgeous! 😻

  5. We are excited to see that you have a lot of Maine Coon cat in your system. Our angel Seney what’s a registered Maine coon. It requires a lot of hair brushing though doesn’t it. This was fun for us to see where all the places in the world you’re a great great grandparents came from.

  6. OMC! We always thought you were himalayan, but there’s not even a tiny bit of that in your DNA! Guess that shows a lot about what WE know about cats… Well, you are 100% beautiful, Seal.

  7. Mornin’, beautiful Seal – Well, I’m surprised! I thought you were a Siamese, but will admit I don’t know a whole lot about cat breeds. Either way, I’m happy you are healthy and at risk for nothing out of the ordinary.

  8. Seal, you are a beautiful cat! I have never heard of a Polycat.
Love the photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your critters! Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.

  9. That’s really interesting. I’d like to do that with Chiana. Before she got spayed me and my partner at the time (ex now lol) thought she was part siamese or at least has some siamese in her! :-D

  10. Seal! We would have thought you had more Eastern/Oriental cat! How exciting to see your results! Queen Nellie Bellie was part of a study on purebred Siamese Cats. And she was! We did find out that Lilac Points were Dilute Bluepoints though. Jo Jo and Kozmo and Me would probably have as mixed heritage as you guys! Except for me, Marvelous! Because I am a Marvelous Cat! Definitely one of a kind! (just like you guys!) Keep being AWESOME! Your #1 Fan Boy! Marvelous Marv

  11. no matter the DNA you are gorgeous and so sweet. Maine Coon you are and I am missing all of you

  12. Sorry we’re missing comments but the famille is here and time whips by without mama paying attention to blogs and comments. She’ll be fine in a coule of days after they have gone…sigh….and sad, too.

  13. We had a Maine Coon Cat and he was the sweetest animal. He really had the markings of a racoon…very brown and brindled.

  14. Java Bean: “Ayyy, what an interesting bunch of results you have there, Seal! More went into you than went into either me or Lulu. I bet Polycat is the cat equivalent of Supermutt, which is part of my results.”
Lulu: “Maybe you and Seal could team up to fight crime. Supermutt and Polycat! I bet our Dada would have watched that on Saturday Morning cartoons.”
Charlee: “Probably so, except the proper name would be Polycat and Supermutt.”
