Yes, that’s me Simon and I must have Phonophobia, which is the fear of loud noises. It’s also called Sonophobia or Ligyrophobia, well, whatever it’s called I think I have it. I told you last week that the dude that helps maintain our HVAC System was coming. He sure isn’t the quiet type. Then the Dad was stomping around in the attic. As if that wasn’t enough the Dad and Mom are gonna steam clean our hardwood floors and rumor has it that they will be scrubbing the carpet. The poor Mom and Dad are confused, Spring Cleaning is supposed to happen in the Spring isn’t it? Fall Cleaning just doesn’t have the same ring to it. Oh well, more hiding for me! It’s not nice to have a fear of loud noises, Simon. I don’t have a fear of them, but the slightest noise makes me jump out of my skin!

Well I’m not crazy about loud noises either……I think we kitties have rather sensitive ears! HOWEVER, for some weird reason, I don’t have a problem with the vacuum cleaner…..I’m even super brave and stay put – don’t hide – when it’s around. Weird? Yes we ALL think so but Mom says I’ve always been a little “different” than any of her other cats. Maybe that’s good? Who knows!!!

Precious is right up there with you Simon when it comes to noise. And house cleaning, she thinks that’s ridiculous. As humans just have our way of doing things.

Poor boy! While I don’t have a fear of loud noises, I certainly don’t like them. Especially unexpected ones. Your mom and dad will have to research “earplugs for cats” and buy you a pair!

I can understand that. Loud noises can easily scare anyone and any animals. My dog doesn’t like them during the week of July 4th.

Spring cleaning was from back in the day when you warmed your house with nothing but a wood stove, open fireplace, or coal stove. Those warming methods left the house filthy after being shut up tight all winter, and spring cleaning was needed.
Now we use electricity and natural gas, neither of which leave a film or ash or soot all over the house, so spring cleaning isn’t needed any more. Autumn cleaning, getting all the debris tracked in over the summer out of the house before the major holiday season, makes much better sense.
Either way, it’s not a happy time for you, so I hope it’s over quickly.
Sorry you have to hide some more, but at least your house will be clean. XO
